Eastergate Lion War Memorial Roundabout
The above Grade II listed Eastergate Lion War Memorial was constructed in 1920 and dedicated to the Eastergate Parish in 1921 to remember the ultimate sacrifice of those who served our country to give us the freedoms of today.
Responding to many requests from residents of this parish, Eastergate Parish Council is project managing the specialist cleaning and minor repairs to the memorial and surrounding crazy paving on the roundabout by stonemasons. Which means during this period scaffolding with hoarding will be erected to protect the complete roundabout and craftsman within.
Eastergate Parish Council applied for a special grant in the earlier part of 2017 from the War Memorials Trust, which will be awarded on satisfactory completion of all the restoration requirements and will cover part of the costs.
During this period the road layout leading to and from the roundabout junction will be changed with the permission of West Sussex County Council Highways Department. This is to ensure the highest level of safety for road users and the stonemasons working there.
We appreciate this may create inconvenience to road users and businesses alike and we seek you patience and understanding during this period.
